Musician
Greg
Federico has taught piano lessons privately
since 1990.
He uses mainly a classical methodology,
although with some of his more advanced students,
Greg has delved into jazz harmony, composition
and the basics of improvisation.
In
1992, Greg added drums and percussion to his
teaching repertoire.
In this idiom, Greg focuses on snare drum
method, both popular and jazz drum set methods,
and classical mallet method (on vibraphone).
Federico’s
overall teaching objectives have always been to
educate students in the art form of music and to
enhance their ability to perform in both solo
and ensemble settings.
Greg believes that
this is most effectively achieved by better
developing a students’ ability to read music
as well as by strongly incorporating music
theory as a backdrop for more advanced
compositional concepts such as harmony,
poly-rhythms, rhythmic counterpoint, and song
form.
In
summary, Greg Federico's teaching style is best
described as patient and empathetic.
He is a "player's coach" -- old
enough to have experience, yet young enough to
understand and empathize with the rigorous
challenge of learning a musical instrument.
Thus, Greg is said to have struck a fine
balance between being both easily engaging and
highly motivated.

| “Thank
you Greg, for your excellent
demonstration for my class last Tuesday.
After you left, they commented on
how clear your descriptions were. I was impressed by your low-keyed and laid-back manner, which
will be invaluable in the classroom.
Thanks again, Greg.”
